The production of The Princess Royal is lush and grandiose, so I’m hoping real hard that the telling of the story is just as excellent. I liked the leads in the novel and can totally imagine Zhang Linghe playing the austere and erudite Pei Wenxuan. The romance is quite complex, because the story starts with the leads married and already in their 50s, with a mutual hate so intense that they were supposedly responsible for the other party’s death. However, they are reincarnated to the time just before their marriage and realise the misunderstandings they had of each other in their previous lives were in many ways needless and caused by pride and stubbornness.
