review: Wonderful Season Episode 17-18

WHO EVER PROPOSES IN A PROSECUTION OFFICE OVER A LAPTOP??? Kang Dong Seok does and the proposal is the most romantic un-romantic one there is. His tone is aloof, but his words are to-die-for sweet. He uses formal speech, which makes the proposal sounds ridiculously more swoon-worthy. LEE SEO JIN. I’m glad Hae Won finally decides to put a brake on her revenge plans and work with hotshot Prosecutor who is blowing me away with his intensity and drop-dead manly gorgeousness. As Running Man’s Lee Kwang Soo would say in his brand of English: I love Lee Seo Jin! Lee Seo Jin is beautiful-lest! Raise your hand if you agree with me, ladies 😉

The little twins go camping with DH – NEPA product placement galore. DH is trying to work up the courage to confess that he is indeed their dad. Anyway, Kang Daddy must have been really a horrible skirt-chaser if even Grandpa admits his son is the worst ever. We go back to HW brooding on the rooftop. Someone calls her and hey – it’s DS’s female colleague (Shin Young) from the office. Based on the way the women address each other, they are pretty close.

The younger woman suspects HW keeps pushing DS away because she is afraid he would get hurt or – even die – in the process of helping her expose SH’s dad, who shall go by OCS from now on. Awww…it’s sweet but no worries – DS’s mighty dimples can swallow even the biggest monsters. No sweat. Shin Young goes on to say she has handed all evidence that HW has dug up so far to DS and says he won’t give up nailing OCS’ ass even if HW doesn’t involve him. Shin Young begs HW to leaves all these dangerous stuff to the prosecutor and live her life proper. Back at the office, DS puts two and two together and realises OCS is involved in all things bad, and probably every suspicious death/accident there is. He decides to seek OCS out.

DS heads over to OCS’ house and we see that DS’s traitorous colleague calls to warn OCS – OCS refers to him as ‘President Kim’. His meeting with DS is disturbed by an unexpected guest – HW. OCS hastily excuses himself and goes out to meet HW. HW, on the other hand, has sneakily called SH to let him listen into her conversation with his dad. So OCS and HW argue heatedly – OCS swears HW is only into SH for his money as he thinks SH is too stupid to attract her otherwise. HW insists she sees a nice, innocent man. OCS flies into a rage and pours a bucket of water over her. And of course, DS walks out in synchronised timing to see HW all drenched. DS and HW stare at each other agape and HW runs off in embarrassment.

ws17_3

SH dials HW – all worried for her and hell-mad at his dad for thinking so little of him. DS interrupts their call by listing the steps of HW’s revenge plan aloud: 1) Get close to SH to get close to OCS. 2) Become daughter-in-law and snatch back her family fortune through that. 3) Dig up all dirt on OCS and expose him. DS remarks it’s a really daft revenge scenario and though he hates to ask, he just wants to ask one question: How long would it take for her to fulfill this revenge plan? 10,20, 30 years? DS can’t believe she’s risking her life based on this ridiculous plan. But he still pats her dry with his hankie anyway. When she starts to walk away, he tells not to move one more step or he’s going rattle to SH that she’s using him. When HW scoffs that he can do whatever he wants, SH calls again and he grabs the phone, and holds it out of reach.

DS drags her to his place and tells her he can’t think of a better place to bring her. Though he rather die than bring her into his house, he is willing to grit and bear it because of her. When DT sees her, he hollers that DS has brought a woman home. HA. Everyone assembles in the courtyard and all are shocked to see her. DS discovers that HW has been kicked out of her present apartment. DS informs his family HW will be staying with them for awhile: he’ll watch over while he is at home, but requests that his family keep an eye on her when he isn’t. She isn’t allowed to step out of the house. DT wonders what happened to HW that this has to be done and DS explains curtly that HW thinks that living is too difficult and wants to end her life. The family explodes in empathy and sympathy and mom goes over to hold HW’s hands, saying they are so cold.

DH finally confesses to the tiny twins that he is their dad – they burst out in wailing sobs. Hahahaha. DS shoos HW into…his room?? YAAAAY! Even though I know he ain’t going to be sharing the room with her…yet. He passes her his clothes (sweatshirt and pants by Firstlook Edition – I know so after watching the home-shopping clip…heh) and instructs her to wear them tonight – he’ll buy her a new set tomorrow. He warns her not to think her of escaping as he will be keeping watch at the door. He snitches away her phone, too. How overbearing…how irresistibly manly is his take-charge demeanour ….HW argues that her mom is waiting for her and DS responds that DT has already gone to the hospital in her stead.

At the hospital, DT informs HJ that her sister is putting up at her place. She isn’t in the right frame of mind so his family will look after her, while he’ll care for HJ and her mom. When she tries to argue, he pulls her into his arms and tells her that she can come to him anytime, for money, for a shoulder to lean on. Back at the campsite, DW accepts DH easily enough while DJ throws a fuss. HW broods in a corner of the room, while DS sits guard outside. Mom comes around with a tray and asks DS to take it in for HW. She compliments for doing the right thing in bringing HW home. Awww… is that the first compliment she has ever paid to him? Is this the first time he is acting humane ( in her books) in decades?

HW sleeps in her own clothes and DO watches over her lovingly. When mom enters the room, Do mentions she had lay HW down as she had fallen asleep in the corner of the room. And HW never woke up through it all. Mom muses it’s because HW is too tired and tells DO to keep HW company, and hold her hand. DS gets busy and orders a search warrant for Happy Cash. And we get all sorts of couple hijinks with uncles and DT. DO bumps into WJ and he tries to talk to her. But DH spots them and socks him on his nose. A tearful DO stops her younger brother from doing further damage and gazes at WJ worriedly as she leaves.

DH is chatting with his adorable colleague when he sees HW walking past them – colleague has just told him that HW is missing. DS is with OCS and informs him he will start investigating him. OCS wonders whether he is doing it because of HW – she ain’t the innocent gal of past and now uses men. On the way out, DS gets a call from his older bro that HW escaped while he was at the washroom. DS drives off and doesn’t spot HW behind. OCS is all drunk and HW takes over the driver seat after his chauffeur runs off to help a passer-by. She says she is here to serve him, and they are going to meet her father.

ws17_23

We flashback to HW walking her way to find OCS – mulling about how DS can be hurt or killed if he was involved in her father’s case. We see her smashing the side-mirror of some random car and telling the owner she knows who did it. ERRRRRRRRRR. Let’s just say I’m happy that HW gives up her lone quest for revenge because honestly – her plans border on….dumb? DH watches her all the while she is “orchestrating” her scenario. Back to the HW’s suicidal soliloquy in the car, she tells OCS she doesn’t anyone else to get hurt or die because of her revenge plan and she has tried her best for the past eight years to prove that he killed her father.. blah blah. DH stops by from driving off in his own superhero way and DS saunters in coolly. And barks whether this is the end of her revenge – to die with OCS?

ws18_1

ws18_2

DS can’t believe her stupidity (neither can I, sigh.): he knows she is dumb, but not thaaat dumb, so in a way she hasn’t disappointed him with her unbelievable dumbness. He tells her he isn’t going to stop her, so she can go ahead and merrily die with OCS. He stomps away and as HW attempts to re-enter the car – DH stops her and flings her over his shoulder and walks away. OCS’ chauffeur watches them from a distance. I hate how daft the plan is and how daft the writer makes HW appear with coming up with this daft plan. ARGH! Glad all the daftness has come to an end – I hope it has.

ws18_3

DH finally deposits HW on a park bench and questions her actions. When she refuses to reply, he refuses to let her move. He finally decides to dump her at the police station ( citing to the officer that she is dangerous. Hahahaha) so that he can do his thang while knowing she’ll be safe. He bumps into DS outside their home and ask him whether he is curious to know where HW is – he isn’t. But when DS is in the comfort of his room, he collapses on the floor in exhaustion, both emotional and physical. At the police station, the officer figures it is a prank and ask HW to go home. HW requests to stay just a little longer. Meanwhile, DH and mom have an endearing moment at home.

HW calls DS using a payphone and he remains silent while she rants tearfully that she was perfectly A-OK when he wasn’t around. She wasn’t sad, she didn’t regret what she chose to do. But because of him, she keeps stopping, feeling lost and confused. And it’s all his fault. She regrets meeting him again and she regrets that she is wavering towards him again. DS just listens quietly, tears forming in his eyes. HW hangs up the phone and breaks down on the ground in tears. And awwww… DH came back for her and I’m pretty sure he heard and saw everything even from that distance, this being a drama and all.

DS clears his mind by pounding on the treadmill the next morning – and pointedly ignores OCS when the old man approaches him. OCS wonders whether he has to kill off HW – sigh. HW visits her mom and apologises for not thinking straight – the world is too pretty just to off herself this way (and DS is way too beautiful to not to have a go with before dying….) At home, the kids re-evaluate the hierarchy when DW blurts out the truth by calling DH ‘dad’. DO seeks WJ out at the medical centre. Oh, and WJ and the schoolteacher are childhood friends. When he starts to speak in saturi, schoolteacher asks him why, he says he wants to get it right in front a particular woman. Awwwwww….

WJ is happy to see DO and she apologies for DH – and implores him not to report the matter to the police. She has also brought along a lunchbox for him. He takes a bite and exclaims it is spicy in saturi and she is tickled. WJ goes on to tickle her further by continuing to talk in saturi. HW also ends things for good with SH. At the office, DS being sharp figures out a way to expose the relationship between OCS and his colleague. He has all the proof he needs to start an investigation on OCS. Luuurve hard-as-nails DS the prosecutor. HJ and DT, and twin uncles get their own pretty hilarious screen-time.

ws18_9

DS is with HW at his office and they discuss what HW has gathered so far – OCS has been busy bribing civil servants and maybe, money laundering. HW knows a little of the loans OCS is involved in – because of Happy Cash I guess? So that’s one smart thing that worked in her favour. DS asks his colleague to go find out more of HW’s property and tells HW they can wrap up after she answers these last few questions.

DS: Is is true that because of me, you are regretful and confused?
DS: Is it true that you are wavering towards Kang Dong Seok?
DS: If I ask you to marry me, will you accept my proposal?

ws18_12

ws18_13

ws18_14

ws18_15

Well, didn’t teenage HW declare long ago that one day she’ll get DS to love her and marrying him is her ultimate goal in life? She is getting what she wished for 15 years later. OMO OMO. Love the way DS asked the first two questions while flippin’ through papers but stared straight at her in the eye when he asked the last question. AWESOME. SO AWESOME. And what’s even more awesome? LEE SEO JIN. Gaaaaaaaaaah. The man is killin’ me…. so killin’ me. He is doing to me what Lee Min Ho did to me in Faith. Though he has a better start since I liked him anyway and LMH went from zero to hero by totally owning Choi Young. KHS is one fortunate lady to act with such handsome, talented men with dreamy voices back-to-back.

In the preview, DS says in a voiceover: I liked you first way before you liked me. I love you. Cha Hae Won. So he did mean it when he declared to her that he’s just going to be upfront with her, no holds barred: he’s gonna propose when he wants to propose, gonna say I love you when he wants to say I love you. The solemn, firm yet emotional way he says it just annihilates me and my poor heart. It’s the tone – oh gosh, the tone. LSJ has a naturally deep voice which can go all commanding if need be but when he decides to be gentle, he turns me into a puddle. OCS’ warning to DS does cast a spell of irritable doom and there’s still the issue of the ex-fiancée. Oh well….

DS is pretty much swaggering his way to become one of my unforgettable drama heroes ever – I have an incurable weakness for aloof men – reel life and real life – to the horror of my girlfriends and mother. But they’ve resignedly gotten used to it since those kinda guys strangely work for me on all levels. HEH. There’s just something devastatingly irresistible and heartbreakingly dangerous when they go all tender, gentle and caring on you.

HW is looking a lot happier in the preview so I guess that though she may not accept his proposal just yet, she is willing to start dating for real and take things slow. While living under the same roof? With that insanely hot man? All the best to her 😉 😉 😉
