review: Hi! School: Love On Episode 3
OMO. This drama is sooooo addictive. I guess the bullying is just part of the high school deal but Seul Bi’s interactions with Woo Hyun and Sung Yeol more than make up for it. Seul Bi is such a scream, yet bubbling over with warmth and kindness that makes her just irresistible. Woo Hyun’s disgruntled caring attitude towards SB is swoony, while Sung Yeol’s outright pleasantness towards Seul Bi is really sweet. What can I say? I’m in love with high school kids! And why is this being aired only once a week????
WH floats lifelessly in the pool when someone jumps in. It is super angel SB. She tries to save WH but he struggles with her. Someone else jumps in with hero music playing in the background – SY. He hauls up the sputtering pair and orders WH to try standing – heh. Since the water is shallow. SY swims away while SB instructs WH to take deep breaths, according to what she has seen in dramas. Hahahahhaha. She demonstrates and WH does listen to her. She is perplexed that WH can’t swim but he defends himself saying one of his nicknames is “seal”. SB figures he is more like a dog since it can’t swim that well…HA! Love her.
The trio head back to the classroom and SY offers SB his gym gear. WH hands SB his set instead, saying his is new while SY’s one is stinky. Plus, SY doesn’t have another set of clothes to change out. WH gruffly says SB can change in the classroom since the boys will go to the washroom. Later, while walking home, they pass by the convenience store and SY curiously asks SB whether she remembers what took place here before. Of course she does, recalling how cooooold that night was. Hahaha. Gotta love KSR for her range of super cute, animated expressions. WH listens to them chat, growing more annoyed by the second.
SY offers to take SB home and inquires where she lives. SB explains she and WH are heading for the ricecake shop right ahead when WH yanks her forward, reminding her they are headed in the same direction. I guess he doesn’t want SY to know they are living together. SB twists around as she is being tugged along, stating she just needs to go with WH and she hopes she’ll see SY often. Awwww. I love that she calls him “umbrella”.
SB and WH continue their walk home and SB asks where she can buy the gym gear – it’s so comfy. WH says she can’t buy them since they are expensive and she sighs at the pricey tags of human clothes. When WH asks her whether she jumped in to save him earlier, she replies she was trying to save a seal who can’t swim. HAHAHA. SB suggests that he learns how to swim (like SY) and WH blusters that he can swim, just that he doesn’t like to. He can swim well if he wants to.
WH orders SB not to jump into situations without thinking and she says she will if she sees him in danger. Awww. WH then grumbles that SB is so smiley and giggly with SY. SB comments that that SY’s name is nice and cool too (just like the person). WH refutes her and SB responds that WH is cool too – just his name. Heh. When he continues to argue he is more cool than his name, SB states that one moniker suits him perfectly: psycho. Bickering has never been so lively and cute.
WH realises the next morning that his necklace is missing. When he heads down the shop, SB greets him brightly, calling him “baby” like how Grandma does. She’s sooooo cute. WH loses his temper when Grandma tells him to stop searching for the necklace and she’ll buy him another one. When WH stomps off, Grandma suffers another attack. SB is worried, pleading with Grandma not to fall sick or WH will be really worried.
When Grandma sees her solving math problems quickly, she asks SB to tutor WH. SB is horrified that WH isn’t good in his studies, too. Hehehehe. Grandma assures her he will be fine once he puts in effort. When she suggests SB attends school in order to jolt her memory, SB agrees ecstatically. She meets a strange fella at the registration venue and it’s the same fella whom she stole the paint from to wreck JY’s mom’s car. He seems to know she is coming and has all the papers ready. When he starts to act weird, SB walks off.
She runs into Sunbae outside and strange fella runs out and chides for talking to men…ahhhh. So he can see Sunbae though he pretends he can’t. So is he another angel-turned-human? Or a guardian angel for the angels? SB and Sunbae chat and he wonders whether SB wants to remain human since she seems to be living as one quite well. SB hastily replies she has no choice and he asks whether she can see him well. Because humans can’t see angels. He stands up to leave and SB tries to grab his hand but he slips through her.
SB turns up at school and in the same class as WH just as he is having a scuffle with Bully. SB sees them and immediately runs over to bite Bully. Hahahahahaha. WH tries to drag her away but the teacher figures out they know each other. Sb confirms she stays with WH. Teacher notes they have different surnames so they can’t be siblings…cousins? WH weakly gives the excuse they have situation at home. SB introduces herself in super informal speech and invites everyone to the ricecake shop. And is WH smiling at her intro despite his earlier grumps?? Awwwwww. Well, except the bully. She orders him not to come to the shop as they have the right to refuse customers. Damn. She’s awesome.
When the teacher wonders where SB should sit, SB asks perkily whether she can sit next to WH. Hahahaha. She’s really like gum. But it’s so sweet. His partner quickly offers his seat after a threat by Bully. SB happily takes his seat. Young Eun (YE) walks over to SB and SB recognises her and passes her the completed homework. SB spots SY and skips over to him – happy that they are in the same class… just like the dramas. Heh. She means all the coincidences that dramas are famed for.
SB gets bullied right out of class and WS watches her worriedly from afar. She is targeted during gym class as the rest of the girls whack her with balls. I think SB is just bewildered that they are treating her this way. WH finally takes a hit for her and SB stares at him in surprise, her nose bleeding. Chemistry much these two???? He sends warning glares at all the girls, and pulls her away by her wrist. OMO. Bully loudly comments that they shouldn’t be dating during class. SY watches the departing pair thoughtfully as the gym teacher runs after them.
WH rails at her for not defending herself against the harassing of other kids. SB has no idea why they are doing such to her. WH sticks tissue in her nostrils to stop the bleeding and SH complains she can’t breathe properly – humans die when they can’t breathe!!!! I can’t say enough how cute KSR is. WH responds that humans don’t die that easily. Teacher finally catches up with them and punishes them for fooling around during class.
OOOHHH. This library scene is too sweet. SB feels bad that WH got punished because of her. She takes a book from the trolley and places it on the shelf. The title is: “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” WH softens and places another book on the shelf in reply: ” Because of you, I’m going crazy!” SB picks up two books in response: “I’m hungry” and “ Ways To Eat And Live Well.” WH cracks a tiny smile and SB is happy she made him smile. AWWWW. WH shushes her since they are in the library. SB notices he hasn’t found his necklace but WH says he doesn’t need it and is better off without it. But she is able to pick out the slight tremors in his tone and tells him not to lie. If he is upset, he should just say he is. And she places a hand over his heart. WH says he ain’t lying but SB insists that she can pick out he is lying. WH warns her to stop touching him and orders her to arrange the rest of the books.
Ki Soo (KS) teases WH about SB later and he suggests that they go play computer games. SB walks in and WH tells her she can’t come along. SB cuts in and informs him she can’t go with him and has somewhere else to go. WH is left flummoxed. Hahahaha. SB keeps getting one-up on him. SB sees the girl bullies and hides behind a tree. She chides herself for hiding when she has done no wrong. She rehearses ways to tell off the bullies and it’s beyond cute. SY overhears her and is tickled. SB heads for the swimming pool again to look for the necklace, but the door is locked. SY turns up and offers to help her. He gets the key from the gym teacher and lets them in. SB tries popping her head into the pool with goggles but to no avail. SY hands her a towel and urges her to go first since she has to work. SB opines she feels grateful that he keeps helping her and SY replies she can repay him. SY finds the necklace later. Awwwwwwwww. He’s sweet too.
Girl bullies decide to call the ricecake shop and ask SB to deliver. WH and KS are hanging out but WH is distracted by the loss of his necklace. They head to the café for drinks and just then, SB arrives with delivery. The girl bullies quickly sneak off before WH and SB spot them. The kids manage to help out a staff in trouble and SY’s dad and colleague hears the commotion and rushes to help. OKAY . This must be a really small district.
After, WH gets a call and it’s SY looking for SB. HA. I lurrve how annoyed WH is. WH insists SY can tell him what he wants to tell SB, but I guess SY only wants to speak to SB. WH passes the phone to SB and orders her to hang up in 10 seconds. SB is delighted it is SY and agrees to meet him. Before she scampers off, she passes a grocery list to WH. Hehehe. WHat a way to rub it in. KS taunts that WH, SY and SB are in a love triangle.
SY meets SB and it’s funny and sweet how SY hides the necklace from SB and they go in circles. He finally holds it up and SB is grateful. She asks how she can repay him and he tells her to buy him a car. SB blanches at that, saying she has bad memories with regards to cars. Stepmom had followed SY (she saw the necklace earlier with him) but he ignores her. They head to the arcade and such a fab and fun scene. KSR is such a joy to watch while SY has such a sweet deposition. SB wins a car later for SY and gives it to him. He thanks her for making his day a little brighter. SB offers to punish the culprits if he is being bullied. Heh.
She starts sneezing and he gets worried. But she reassures him she’s as sturdy as a rock and never took medicine in her life. He offers to take her home (it’s sweet that he is always doing that) but SB says she can find her way home. She runs off. leaving SY watching her departing back with an affectionate smile.WB is back at the store, wondering where and what she is doing. HA. I like his practice call to SY. He fumes that SB should at least call if she was going to be late but he belatedly realises she doesn’t have a phone. Is he going to buy her one? Sweet. Sweeter if you consider he doesn’t really have a lot of money on him. Poor SB loses the necklace again and has to use her powers to snitch it from a drain.
WH anxiously waits for SB at a bridge and is relieved when he spots her. SB is weak and stumbling but she perks up when she sees him waiting for her. He scolds for just running off like that and is mad at SY for leaving her in her ragged state. SB produces the necklace and puts it on for WH. Awwwww. She tells him not to lose it again because she will be exhausted if he does. WH thanks her and pats her head. SB doesn’t know how to react. WH sniffs his hand and wonders why her hair stinks. Did she fall into something? SB is stunned he knows. Heh. WH advises her if she is going to fall into something, fall in love. Hahaha. So cheesy. SB spots Sunbae watching from afar and goes to him…
LOVE. Love the SY-SB date, love the library scene. Using books to communicate feels so old-school and quaint in our tech-crazy world. And meaningful. SB doesn’t understand why she is being bullied and harassed because she doesn’t know how petty and vindictive humans can be. So far, she has only encountered kindness in WH, SY and Grandma. I like that both male leads are likeable without being too obnoxious or rude. And haha…it’s nice to see WH jealous yet so sweet that he wants to buy her a phone.
SB? She experiences her first stirring of romantic human puppy love when WB pats her head. WH has never been evil to her but he hasn’t been exactly gentle either. So his affectionate gesture is something new and strange to her. The best part of the drama continues to be the sparkling chemistry between KSR and WH. They are absolutely fab together and there is an emotional connection between the two in their scenes. I ship them with all my heart. Onscreen, of course. Heh. But I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll have a drama reunion in a few years time. If they have such incredible rapport now, just imagine what they can offer when they are older.”*SWOON*

I have a question though…in Epi 1 standing in the rain scene,we see WH with a different necklace/locket than the one he loses while swimming.His eyes seem to have recognized the locket/necklace the girl (whose identity/face we do not know in the 1st epi) It looks like the same key-shaped locket he lost and subsequently found in this epi…Epi 3.Now back to Epi 1 scene,WH as his eyes remain fixated on the necklace on the unidentified girl,we see him wearing another kind of necklace..rounder shaped.that scene is after WH has left high school and is at uni.
I noticed too that on Ep 1, year 2016, the girl with umbrella with face hidden was wearing WH’s current key (2014) and the one worn by WH in 2016 was the locket currently (2014) in WH’s mum’s possession. I speculate and hope that WH indeed gave his key to SB and he keeps the locket by his mum, in the hope that one day they will be reunited, just like WH with his mum.
I also hope that girl is seul bi. When i think about it the girl didn’t bother to look at WH. if that was her would that mean that she became human and lost her memory or a reincarnationof her. Either way i’m excited how this story unfolds
Thanks for reviewing such a wonderful drama, this ep is really truly SWEET beyond words. I love it. love SB, she has this innocent child like quality about her, so sweet, caring and witty, she is indeed an angel. Her bickering with WH is the best, WH says if SB is going to fall for something, then fall in love, I think WH forgot to finish his sentence, ‘ fall in love With ME’. Enjoyed SB&Umbrella’s date and I hope to see WH&SB on a date, they are so cute now, imagine when they start dating ……just thinking about it gives me cavities. I love Fridays. 😘
I absolutely love the library scene. Even without words their interaction shows off some kind of sweet, cute and innocent feeling. It’s a witty move by the writer to let them communicate that way. The last part was kinda cheesy but i like it. I’m excited to see SB experience different kinds of human emotions but id rather not see her in pain but then where’s the thrill of living and i guess she’ll have hard time figuring out what jealousy is.
Well, WH just has to be super nice to another girl and SB will know what jealousy is 😉 Heh.
