hong jong hyun in action [updated with translation]
I FINALLY FOUND THE CLIP! I knew there was a BTS clip of Hong Jong Hyun’s action scenes in The King Loves floating around but I couldn’t find a version that could play properly where I am… until now. I couldn’t find it on Youtube either because it only was uploaded on certain, mostly restricted, websites. He can be so bad-ass when he wants to and is so bloody hot when he is in action mode. I’ve translated what he said since I thought he was just too adorable.
I love sageuk fight scenes when done well. But my heart dropped and I literally screeched at the part when he got hit in the eye. Dayum… that is how much I love Jong Hyunie. He can’t get hurt… I guess Yoona must have felt 1000 times worse when she found out. Hahaha. There goes my stubborn shipper’s heart again. But I bet she fussed over him, and his wound if there was one.
He says:
“I can’t say I have many action scenes in this drama, but I do have some. I have done projects with action scenes before but in this drama alone, I seemed to have gotten injured quite a bit. For example, my eye got cut before while filming at that place behind me. This is my first time filming dangerous action scenes so I was very careful. Because if I get injured, I have to rest and recover, and this will delay the filming schedule because I will be unable to work with the rest. That was what I was most worried about. But as I filmed these action scenes, I steadily got sucked in till the point I got quite obsessed, but got more comfortable with it. But I still find it a little difficult.”
Awww…He is such a sweetheart and it shows since he was concerned about disrupting production if he got injured. It was cute how he admitted he gradually got obsessed with the thrill of filming action scenes – he is just a bona fide thrill seeker, which probably explains why he is so good at riding horses, too. I love how he is so sweet, yet so cool and assertive at the same time. Gah. Maybe I need to re-watch We Got Married to get my dose of his quiet awesomeness.
I’m not sure whether you guys have seen the clip so I decided to post it here. Hope you can view it. You can see a few more clips on the website, including a RinSan Special which is pretty hard to find, too, though it doesn’t feature any new content. It is mostly stuff that we have seen before, only much clearer.
I somehow always doubted the two kissed on the lips but I think they did in the end based on this angle. I think this was the kiss that made one of the staff go “yaaaaaah” in appreciation, as Hong Jong Hyun pointed out in the BTS cut. I don’t think a male staff would do that if they didn’t kiss proper – or at least bump lips.
It does look awfully swoony and pretty from this angle… why am I digressing from action to kissin’?

That was awesome! Thanks so much for all your effort – I do have some other clips from the site, but not this one. I love how action scenes are choreographed and to see this in real time was special. My favorite fight scene I think ever is when he and San are “fighting” quietly in the 3rd episode. It was choreographed as a dance and I loved it. All his action scenes were so well done.
I thought so too. The scene was beautiful as if they were dancing. I agree with Yoona, she was able to do well because of HJH. I also loveeee the scene of him fighting MooSuk. HJH is really good in action scenes. I am pleasantly impressed with him and Yoona.
He’s so bad-ass when he is fighting… it’s like another breathtaking side of him.

And yes for mothers, the instinct would be soothe their child in pain. Hmm…if the child is a strapping, sexy and strong 27 year-old…wouldn’t a similarly sexy and gorgeous (and available) young woman be more welcomed to soothe wound? Where was Yoona in this scene?
I think there were times they did not film together and so Yoona was nowhere to be seen. Too bad.

Yes, I remember that fight scene where he had an accident with his eye. Saw the clip on instagram. I thought the way he turned around and squatted on the ground was utterly cute. Sorry hehe. And he was wearing one of my favourite outfits of Rin too. I can’t with him sometimes. Too handsome.
My fave fight scene was when Rin and the guards were rescuing Eun Young Baek from Song In. The way Rin walked while others were fighting was so sexy that I had to rewind a few times. He looked good from behind. Heck, he looked good in all angles. *surrenders*
I liked that scene the most,too. Rin’s really dependable in rescuing people.

YES! Loved that scene when he saves Minister Eun when he fought and walked through the hall like the boss he is. Sexy!
Oh my god, I practically questioned my sanity when I rewind that part so many times. I wondered what is it about this guy, that made me do weird things like this? I was never like this before with my other faves.
I guess it’s the charisma that he exuded. Rin is a royal. You can just feel in that moment, he is the boss. And the way they shot the scene, the way the camera shook a little bit and the background music, paired with the way Rin walked…it was perfect.
first of all, thank you so much @breathless for another article about Rin and I just love love love his serious face and he’s so good at action scenes, Yoona is right about this, and I also how he modestly shake that compliment off, “I’m not good at it but I try to practice when I got time”, can i order this kind of man for my future son in law please 😀 😀 😀

The action scenes are awesome!
We can hear the sounds of the weapons hitting against each other. HJH could really hurt himself because he was so into the actions sequences. He certainly didn’t pull any punches and received the hits just as realistically.

He’s really one of a kind. The more i know him in real life,the more i love him. I knew he existed before because i like Lee soohyuk and watched style log(the episode where all 5 model avengers were guest)but didn’t care much about him.
I watched the show before seeing only the 4 guys. Now,I’ve rewatched style log looking only at him and only him.

This is OT but you’ve commented that you’ve started watching WGM when @breathless mentioned HJH was in it,so,i just wanted to spazz about him with you because i thought we started watching it almost at the same time(i thought every HJH fan have seen it except me lol).
I just wanted to say that for me this guy is even more perfect IRL, that he could give Rin a run for his money. He’s very funny,calm,peaceful,shy,honest,genuine and very attractive,and beautiful inside and out and very,very sexy lol.
As an introvert,i totally undertand him taking things slowly,shying from intimacy with strangers and very guarded with his private feelings. I kind of mentally cringe everytime Yura seems to wanted to change him. Because you can’t fix what’s not broken. JongHyun’s fine as he is. I’m not hating on her tho because she’s just doing her job because they’re on a variety show,so i understand where she’s coming from.
He’s have a hard time because he’s a genuine kind of guy and not comfortable faking his reaction and i hate how people misunderstood him calling him cold!
I’ve only started watching at ep.244 to test myself if i would like this show and honestly,i only watched jjongah parts because other couple was too cheesy for me that i can’t stop cringing,but of course,they’re just doing their job.
Best part for me was when he met the parents. Yura’s parents were so cool and funny. And i totally understand how the mother couldn’t take her eyes off him because he;s so pleasing to the eyes. Even the ajumma mc couldn’t stop complementing his looks. And even the new zealander in Bali wants to hit on him lol.
I suck at explaining things because i don’t know how to express my thoughts in writing but this sums up how i feel.
also,i’ve mention WGM here because i couldn’t relate when people compares the difference with his reaction to Yoona and Yura. He acted like he’s interested with Yoona as a guy and acted like a friend with Yura? But it’s too early for me to decide,i’m still at ep.258.

Yes I think you’re right. We could have started watching WGM at the same time. I only watched the WGM episodes that had HJH in them. Like you I find the other couples too OTT but yes you’re right they needed to do it since they were paid to do it. 🙂
I agree with everything you said about HJH’s character. Every word. Like @breathless said, HJH was just about perfect in every way.
Wow! I am so with you about being an introvert and shy because I am painfully shy and so introverted myself and so I can totally understand how HJH must have felt whenever Yura asked him to do all sorts of things.
I think it is not that Yura was wrong to do what she did. It is more of HJH was at the stage where he was painfully shy and introverted and so when Yura asked him to do couply stuff he was not ready. And also I agree with you that the chemistry between Hong Jong Hyun and Yura is like brother and sister or good friends than that of a romantic couple.
I think Yura helped him to lose a bit of his shyness and then HJH met Yoona in The King Loves and kaboom!! Their mind-blowing chemistry just blew us away!!
And I think it is also because Hong Jong Hyun has reached a point in his life that he is more comfortable and less shy around people and that’s how he was so comfortable with Yoona.
And don’t say that you can’t express yourself dear. 🙂

Being shy and introverted is not a flaw so Hong Jong Hyun does not need to feel the need to ‘fix’ his shyness and introvertedness. The proof is that he has learnt to work around his shyness and has learnt to be less stiff and awkwardness with others especially with Yoona.

@whatevev I agree with you 10000%, I also think that the comfort level HJH with Yoona and Yura are poles apart, there’s a unseen gap between him and Yura while with Yoona, I often found them succumbed in their own world, not to mention that wide grin that apprear almost everytime I saw those two together

No,it’s ok if you’re late, i didn’t even expect that you’ll reply back because there’s already new Yoona-HJH post.And even if you never reply back,i’m totally ok with it lol.
So,all that HJH needed is the right person and that person is Yoona. I mean,he really have no problem with skinship when it comes to her unlike Yura. In fact he instigated it. My love for him went tenfold the more i learned about him in real life.
I’m anxious introvert and painfully shy that even interacting with people on the internet is hard for me. i even get anxious wondering if my grammar is right lol. I just went out of my comfort zone and experimentally interacts with people here because of him and i felt like i owe breathless for her post and i needed to thank her personally. lol i sound like a loser haha

I love the things I keep finding out about him. That he puts his heart into everything – his drama, his reality shows, his variety shows. The impression I have of him is that he’s the type that does exceptionally well if his heart and interest are in it. IMO He was awesome in LoTJ for being totally into the whole camping and living in the wild instead of trying to get camera time. He was into winning the challenges instead of being funny to get screen time in RM. Its just my kinda thing, I love authenticity.
I wish I have access to other shows he hosted subbed or not.
He’s fab in variety – so witty and killer at games. He’s just so earnest and determined… love, love.
Yes… I love how he is competitive yet he can still be having so much fun while at it.
He’s so good I hope his next project involves him riding fast cars and doing a lot of action scenes. I think he’d do really well in it (and look even hotter haha)

@breathlesssurvival not sure if you have watched a Taiwan drama starred by Vic Chou, the drama itself is controversy, but the male lead is so cool and Vic Chou is hot in the drama as a motorbike racer. I think if Jong Hyun’s next project is similar character, he will be definitely much more charming!
