review: Hi! School: Love On Episode 10

And SO THEY KISSED. With a thin wad of bubblegum in between. Innocent yet sweet. The PD is a genius – making such an impact with something so simple. Anyway, a great, swoony episode OTP-wise. Woo Hyun and Seul Bi are just basking in their feelings for each other, so much so I don’t think anyone or anything can come in between them. Except heaven.

We cut straight to WH tending to SB’s wounds. SB is relieved WH didn’t get hurt, to which WH replies, “Can’t you see you’re hurt?” in a worried tone. Awww. And he asks her whether she really doesn’t have to go to the hospital. SB is all smiles and says that now that he looking and talking to her, she’s gonna live. Awwwwwwwww. Anyway, we see that WH actually did see the potted plant fly up and suspend in the air, while SB suspects it is Sunbae at work. WH starts to wonder whether there is supernatural forces at work. By the way, I love WH’s shorter hair.

SY tries to get his parents to help. SB is ready to go to school when she is cautious when hears noises in the kitchen. Well, it’s WH and he’s back to his normal self. SB is ecstatic and quickly rushes over to grab his hand – and thanks for returning to his old self. Heh. She’s lovable. WH reminds her his hand is expensive but doesn’t make a move to shake her off. Haha.

hslo10_2

He allows her to sock him but she doesn’t and instead pats and strokes his head like the puppy he is, saying they have to do well from now on. SB states with him working hard with her, it won’t feel difficult. They continue to bicker adorably about protecting each other, and ends with WH saying when guys loses the urge to protect their girl…

Bullied boy confesses that he put his mobile phone into SB’s bag and tells YN he didn’t rat on her. He is afraid of JS, but he’s more afraid of being a coward. WH and SB return to class – WH greets SY with a grateful smile, SB waves and grins brightly at him. YE spills the beans about YN for framing SB. Gym teacher switches the seats to prevent “dating”, but er… I think he just paired up a few potential couples. SB looks over at WH morosely, while he frets a little at the thought of SY and SB sitting together. Haha.

SY and WH meet at the washroom and SY brings up SB’s injury. WH retorts she ain’t his girlfriend – but his. HA. SY responds that from now on, he’s going to chase SB. WH is annoyed. The girls gather around SB and SY appears and calls her “Lee Seul Bi”. Then WH appears and calls her “Seul-Bi-ah”. WH notes they have swapped monikers for her. WH makes his way to SB immediately and tell her it’s time – time to look at his face. HAHAHAHAHAHA. It’s super cheesy but it’s WH. So it does turn out swoony. Sighhh…. the things you say in high school! All the girls sigh in envy as WH leads SB away, who is in seventh heaven. Hehe. SB and WH later catch up on sleep during class. SB instinctively turns to face WH and SY wonders sadly whether SB will like him if he hurts her like WH does? WH stirs, sees SB facing him sleeping, and smiles contentedly. Awwwwwwww…

YE gets snubbed by SY, while bullies pick a new kid to pick on. SB returns the book to Hotdog Girl and later goes to the library to find more books about angels and humans. She has trouble reaching for a book (Things you didn’t know about angels who become humans) and WH comes up from behind to give her a hand. He notes the title of the book and SB gets a little anxious.

But he goes on to grumble about her smiling at SY and she grins that he is jealous. Just when WH is protesting, SB notices the row of books on the top shelf falling and pulls WH aside just in time. He is again stunned by the bizarre encounter. SB runs off in search of Sunbae and manages to find him.

hslo10_7

WH overhears SB talking to Sunbae – or she going on and on about angels to thin air. He dashes back to the library to pick up the book SB was looking at earlier – and puts the pieces together. Sunbae watches smugly from a distance. WOW. KSR has certainly matured much from the first episode. She was still a little girlish then. WH reads that the moment an angel’s identity is discovered, it has to return. And he figures he has to pretend he doesn’t know.

Just as he is freaking out, Weirdo appears and sends a pile of most positive angel-centric books tumbling his way. Ya know, titles like How to catch hold of an angel, Falling in love with an angel…hehehe. Weirdo indicates WH should keep SB’s identity a secret – to protect their love. Ad he turns around to go after Sunbae.

Weirdo knows Sunbae is playing all these pranks so that WH would discover SB’s true identity – so that she would have to return to heaven. He notes that Sunbae is displaying all sorts of human emotions: he’s jealous, he misses SB, he likes her, etc. He should just become human too. Ha! But he does warn Sunbae not to try anything funny. Man. How much do I love Weirdo now for being WH’s and SB’s guardian angel.

SB tops the class, beating SY. WH wonders whether SB is really capable or it’s her angel powers at play. When KS teases SH of having supernatural powers, WH quickly attributes it to luck. WH manages to save the house. Back at the shop, SB is thinking whether to ask WH to search for his parents when he says it first. SB wonder again whether he can read her mind and WH replies her thoughts are written all over her face.

Anyway, SB pick out his lies when he claims he doesn’t want to find his parents. When she informs him such, he then tells her “I need only you by my side.” His voice doesn’t tremble and SB realises he’s telling the truth. WH says his sincerity was communicated to her, wasn’t it? Awwwwwwwww….

SB agrees to an order of 100 boxes of rice-cakes and pulls in their friends to help. I love that WH and SB have proper friends on their side now. But in the end, it’s all ruse by JS and the kids decide to distribute the rice-cakes to passers-by. SB catches SY being surrounded by gals but he has only eyes for her. Awwwwwwww.

SY snubs YE again and she’s devastated. KS feeds a little girl and finds out she is YE’s sister. Back home, WH is acting all jittery. He asks SB for her birthday and she lies she forgot when it was. So WH decides that her birthday would be the day she arrived at his house. He goes on to say they have to remember all their moments together, which would in turn form memories. He instructs her to let him know immediately if she feels strange or sick.

WH steals SB’s angel outfit from the wardrobe and acts all strange. SB suspects WH knows she’s an angel and wonders whether to tell him proper. WH hides her dress and tells himself he doesn’t need to know anything else about her. He needs only to know her as she is now – he doesn’t want her to go back.

SY receives his mother’s wedding invite but can’t bring himself to attend the wedding though he wishes her well. WH and SB are on a lazy date when they run into SY. They end up joining a jjajangmyun speed-eating contest and SB wins – the prize is 200 dollars. SB sighs she wouldn’t mind having free jjajangmyun everyday and earn money eating it. HEH. When SY later notes that SB is different from other girls, WH quickly defends her saying she just likes eating Jjajangmyun. Meanwhile, he tells SY Stepmom’s side dishes are exactly to his taste.

hslo10_10

SY decides to stay the night with them. WH goes to the police station to return the food containers and give a box of rice-cakes to SY’s dad. SY feels unwell and SB cares for him. He takes the chance to tell her he’ll wait for her. SB doesn’t know what to do.

hslo10_11

She heads outside to wait for WH and when he arrives, he comments she has her “waiting for him” expression on her face to which she doesn’t deny. She asks him whether waiting is a good thing. WH muses waiting for someone to return is difficult. But waiting for someone as awesome as him will cause one’s heart to flutter.

hslo10_12

hslo10_13

The next morning, the boys end up entangled on the floor together. SB walks in on the damning sight and she later comments they look good together. HEH. They end up at a jjimjibang and have tons of fun fooling around when they run into SY’s parents. WH and SB are shocked to find out that Stepmom is well, SY’s mom.

hslo10_14

hslo10_15

SY hangs out with his parents while SB watches them wistfully. She again tries to persuade WH to find his parents. She later nervously announces that she has something to tell WH and he instantly knows she wants to unveil her real identity to him. To stop her from talking, he gives her a bubblegum kiss and pops it flat so that their lips bump and press. In a voiceover, he says tells her not to say anything: whoever she is, wherever she is from…he doesn’t care. He just wants her by his side.

hslo10_16

hslo10_17

And they continue to bubblegum kiss and poor SY catches them red-handed.

hslo10_19

Oh boy, I squealed like crazy at their bubblegum kiss. The PD/writer is pure genius. It’s a kiss yet not really a kiss. But it is enough to send all the fans into cardiac arrest because I think no one really expected WH and KSR to have any form of lip-on-lip contact, even with a wad of bubblegum in between. I thought the PD would go for a quick peck on the cheek but he figured a chaste cheek peck wouldn’t do WH and KSR justice, given their sizzling chemistry and the lovely onscreen relationship they share.

And YAYYY! KSR/SB at least closed her eyes after her initial shock and didn’t move away. I love their kiss. It’s innocent yet not juvenile. Just the perfect kiss for WH and SB. And totally in-your-face proof that WH and KSR have insane, exquisite chemistry. I’m sure the PD did ask KSR on whether she was comfortable enough to pull this almost-kiss and I’m glad she agreed. Whoever came up with this almost-kiss is brilliant.

Besides building upon the developing romance between SB and WH, I like the little touches on friendship. WH and SY, SY and SB, KS and WH, and their new friends. It’s sweet and inspiring, and gathering great peers is an integral part of school life.

The surprise for me was WH figuring out on his own that SB’s an angel and while it was hilarious how he tried his best to prevent any clue of SB beig an angel from leaking out, it also tugged my heartstrings at how desperate he is to ensure she doesn’t leave him.

This episode was sooooo OTP heavy – and packed with so much goodness and natural skinship – that I seriously felt I was in drama heaven. SB and WH interact so wonderfully with each other, and throw in how emotionally attuned they are to each other…they are pretty much a perfect OTP in my eyes. WH and KSR are just ridiculously awesome together. SB and WH are so natural as a couple that nothing feels out-of-place or forced. They are just happy dating and hanging out like regular high school kids.

I predict I’ll be re-watching this episode a gazillion times. The preview for episode 11 shows tons more OTP moments but I got a feeling those of them acting like some loved-up couple brushing their teeth together and what not is either a dream or fantasy. But I honestly don’t care because I just adore KSR and WH on my screen together…forever!
