review: Hi! School: Love On Episode 11

hslo11_21

He’s so in love. Another keeper of an episode. Well, all the episodes have been keepers so far but this is a good one to make you swoon. Seul Bi and Woo Hyun continue to display astounding maturity and make it clear to everyone that they only have eyes for each other. PERIOD. Kim Sae Ron looks gorgeous while Woo Hyun is hot and manly in his shorter haircut and super protective mode. I can’t get enough of them.

SY is devastated when he catches WH and SB kissing. Later, Stepmom chats with SB and finds out the young girl’s parents have “passed away”, thus, she and WH are living together. It’s understandable she’s worried that a pair of high school kids of the opposite sex are staying under the same roof. If I were their teacher, I would be too.

SB and WH stroll home and WH tries to hold her hand. HA! But SB is too quick for him and snatches her hand away. She hops onto the ledge and when she loses her balance, WH catches her and chides that it’s dangerous. SB retorts he’s more dangerous.

hslo11_1

She slips again and he again steadies her. They share a sweet, charged moment before WH assures her he’s not dangerous, but safe. SB continues to balance on the ledge and WH casually slips his hand in hers to steady her. AWWWWWW. They both smile happily to themselves. GAAAAAAH.

hslo11_28

Back home, WH commemorates their first kiss by marking on his calendar and with a jar of bubblegum – he thanks the bubblegum gratefully for giving him the chance to kiss her. HEH. He think of how to make more memories and his mind suddenly wanders into dangerous territory and he quickly stops himself – literally. He shoves his bed against the door to prevent himself from heading out. HAHHAHAHA. He mutters that he doesn’t trust himself too. He’s tooooo adorable and sweet. SB’s always come first.

hslo11_4

In school, SY ignores SB to her bewilderment. During gym class, WH buddies up with SY and when SY throws the ball at him like he’s a mortal enemy, WH suspects SY’s sulking because of SB but taking out his anger on WH. WH opines that if SY likes SB, he should act appropriately. If not, he should get out of SB’s sight. SY hurls the ball over with venom and it hits WH hard. He doubles over in pain and SB quickly rushes over to his side. Upset, she eyes SY warily.

hslo11_5

KS and SB help WH to the infirmary and Stepmom sees them and fusses over him. Anyway, why is WH’s full weight on SB and not KS?? Hahaha. When KS mentions it was SY who hit WH, she gives him an earful. But she later inquires whether SY is hurt when WH says it wasn’t SY’s fault. It was his own fault for not avoiding SY’s shot. Awwwwww. SB thinks WH is faking and shrugs him off. But he immediately pulls her towards him again and leans heavily on her, complaining that he really is hurt. They’re are sooooo cute.

hslo11_6

Stepmom pops by the infirmary to check in on WH. But when he wakes up to find her there, she quickly apologises for SY. SY appears and she worriedly asks whether he is sick. SY mumbles he has a headache. Stepmom leaves. WH comments that Stepmom seems like a nice person: she took SY’s side and even apologised to WH in his stead.

SB is washing up when WH comes from behind and gently holds her hair to prevent it from getting wet. He opines with a grin that he thinks she won’t be able to do anything without him. GAAAAAH. Love all these little gestures that say so much. SB frets whether he has recovered. He pretends to moan in pain and starts showering her with water.

SB runs to hide behind SY and they start to have a hose fight. But SB crosses over to WH’s side after awhile, and they start to play with each other, SY all but forgotten. They dry themselves later. SB’s shirt is soaked through and SY, being a hot-blooded teenage boy, notices and continues to stare at her wet shirt, half-yearning, half curious. WH spots SY staring at SB and quickly covers her with his jacket. Boys know boys. SY is too mesmerised that he doesn’t catch WH catching him red-handed.

hslo11_11

hslo11_12

hslo11_13

How much do I love WH for choosing not to embarrass SY and just comes up with an excuse when SB asks him why he is covering her with his jacket. He gently tugs her away and boy, the writer/PD are AWESOME at creating such absolutely sweet scenes. They bump into YN along the way. WH eyes her coolly, turns back to smile warmly at SB and continues to walk on. YN continues to be ostracised by the other girls. She later seeks YE out and promises to show she’s worthy of being her friend again.

hslo11_14

Which sums up to her trying to push SB down the steps. In full view of just about everybody. This gal has a balloon for a brain. Plus, she’s a horrible actress. I’m sorry, but she is. Horrible in She’s So Lovable, too. WH and SY sees YN and WH quickly rushes to the bottom of the steps. SN pushes SB down and there is force field that slows her down so that WH is able to catch her. WH spots the supernatural intervention and recalls it is similar to what happened when SB saved his life. SY and Bully notes the bizarre event and wonders if their eyes are playing tricks on them. Anyway, it is Weirdo to the rescue. I just wished he was more subtle.

hslo11_15

SB is jittery that so many kids witnessed the supernatural intervention and feels increasingly uncomfortable when bully keeps studying her suspiciously. WH comes into the classroom and asks her whether she is really not hurt. SB assures him she is fine and WH says he caught her this time and not SY – and it’s fate. HEH. WH notes her discomfort and notes bully’s scrutiny. And he begins to worry.

SB and WH work hard at the shop after school, with KS helping with delivery. He’s such a good friend. But JS and gang try to create havoc outside the shop. KS continues to be kind to YE’s little sis. Back to WH and the bully gang. WH strikes a bargain with them: if he wins, they’ll have to stop their nonsense. JS smirks: What happen if WH loses? What will happen to SB? WH replies with all seriousness he is putting his life on the line: no SB, no him. OMO. SB is worried that WH can’t walk the talk.

hslo11_16

Well, he certainly can and beats them flat. WH looks as if he can really play basketball pretty good and I don’t blame SB screaming him on and going all starry-eyed. Yeah, and that would be the expression on my face too if my boy was as awesome. He’s too cool for words. Woo Hyun-Aaaaaaahhhh.

hslo11_17

hslo11_18

Back home, SB can’t quit worrying and WH notices. He haltingly says if the kids are suspicious…SB quickly replies she didn’t do anything wrong. WH reassures her that they are just bored. And the couple just bring on more of their amazing kinship and skinship as they playfully cup each other’s faces and tease each other. But WH is visibly still worried. DAMN. KSR and WH are totally buzzing with swoony awareness.

hslo11_19

hslo11_20

SY is having nightmare fantasies of SB and WH being all lovey-dovey at home and decides to pack up and stay with them. Stepmom guesses he likes SB. SY doesn’t refute her and instead polishes off the tonic she offers him and tells her to keep making side dishes because WH really likes her stuff. Stepmom is happy that SY is opening up to her.

WH can’t believe SY plans to stay with them and voices out SY is here to keep an eye on he and SB. Heh. SB shoves them together and tells them to have a good time bonding. SY heads to the bathroom and sees the couple’s toothbrushes together in a mug. He throws out WH’s and places his beside SB’s. Hehehehe.

SB heads out with SY to run some errands while YN drops by the shop to see WH. Well, she insists on back-hugging him. SB and SY return in time to see them in that position. SY covers the door and orders not to look anywhere – and just look at him. He takes her away but WH spots them and gives chase. YN threatens to kill herself if he leaves and WH snaps that she can do what she wants. He goes out searching for SB.

hslo11_23

SY takes SB somewhere. He states what they saw was probably a misunderstanding. SB re-affirms it is a misunderstanding. She has seen it all in dramas: how misunderstandings end up causing hurt. Thus, she’s not going to be sucked into doing that. She runs off and SY sighs: does she trust WH that much? Is there really no space for him in her heart?

Back at home, WH tries to reason with SB that nothing happened. Plus, didn’t they agree to trust each other no matter what happens? SB grumbles she didn’t agree to that. WH comments that she looks as if she doesn’t trust him. When she claims otherwise, WH then demands to know why her expression is still so dour. SB admits she still feels awful seeing him and YN like that and stomps off. Heh. She’s cutttteeeee. WH grins and figures that she’s jealous.

hslo11_24

He later goes to the bathroom and notices the toothbrush swap. He mutters that SY is being childish but he’ll overlook it this time. He wonders whether SY still intends on wooing SY. So WH being WH, asks SY outright whether he is chasing SB. And it strikes him that SY might have confessed his love to SB.

SY doesn’t deny it and WH growls why it has to be SB among all the good gals out there? SY replies it’s because he likes SB. When WH rails that SY is really acting all weird, SY retorts that WH should give SB up. WH states firmly he is never ever doing that and suggests SY give up instead. SY suggests they fight it out till the end. WH reasons that SY still has his parents, while he has no one else but SB. SY learns that the necklace was given to WH by his mom.

Unable to sleep, SY goes to the living room. SB is there and she shares with conviction that though it is said that human love can change, she isn’t going to do that. So she tells SY not to wait for her. He’s a really good friend to both WH and her. SY answers sadly that he just found out that the word “friend” has the ability to inflict pain.

Stepmom submits her resignation to the wrath of the gym teacher. She has a talk with SY and he requests to transfer schools. Stepmom knows he’s doing this because of SB. The bullies made the new victim dance – and the old victim joins him. WH walks in and snorts at their dancing and bursts out his idol moves. Hahahahaha. Soon, everyone is dancing and JS is livid that his bullying became a dance party.

hslo11_25

Bullies wonder where WH got his moves from and muses that there is something really strange going on with SB. JS says they’ll just have to find out what it is. SB gets a text message from Weirdo to meet him and she takes off. The bullies trail her.

Weirdo shares with SB the rules of angels-turned-humans and they all have a mark on them. He hands a envelope and stamps the mark on her. Bullies think he’s giving her money and their imagination starts to run wild. SY decides to go home, to WH’s delight. Bullies catch SB and Weirdo outside the café and demands to know their relationship. WH comes along and recognises Weirdo. Later, he tells SB he knows Weirdo is a good guy and it’s good to have good people around her. SB guesses that WH knows about her being an angel. WH says in voiceover that he is afraid she’ll just disappear one day in a burst of light and thus he’ll pretend not to know anything.

hslo11_26

hslo11_27

SY finds stumbles across Stepmom’s necklace and puts the pieces together. He dashes to WH’s place. Meanwhile, SB reads the note Weirdo had passed to her. If a suspicious human touches the mark on her wrist, she’ll disappear forever from all worlds. And the humans she has interacted with will lose their memories of her . YIKES. That means she will truly vanish – neither human nor angel. SB is horrified at the thought that WH won’t be able to recall her at all. NOOOOOOOOO. Please drama…don’t go there… I neeed my happy ending for these two.

Anyway, SY arrives but WH is showering. He heads up to WH’s room and fits both necklaces together. It’s a match. WH walks in and SY rages at him not to come near.

So SB finally admits she loves WH. To SY, at least. It’s a love beyond romantic love – he’s all she has in this world, he’s everything to her. He’s family to her, too. And it’s the same for WH. He is dead serious whenever he says he only has SB and no one else and without her, he is nothing. SB’s letter reads that the humans’ memories will be wiped out if she disappears. Which brings me to the very first episode when they show WH two years in the future, still looking, still waiting for SB. He obviously still recalls her so there must be a twist somehow. Maybe if the human somehow doesn’t forget about the angel’s existence, the angel is able to find its way back to earth.

He must have wanted to die when she left so there is has to be a reason why he is still hanging on. He probably would have reunite with his real mom by then but I don’t really think that suffices. I have a feeling there is a loophole to the whole she’ll-disappear-forever angle. And SB will keep trying to return to WH until she finally does. Very much like Eun Soo in Faith.

Anyway, WH is just awesome in this episode. I don’t think I can love him more. The way he handled SY was pure class and showed what a lovely, understanding, astute person he is. Even when he caught SY staring at SB in a not-so-innocent way, he sized up the situation, briskly cover SB up and led her away instead of creating a fuss and embarrassing SY. He doesn’t want to ruin the friendship between the three of them.

The most beautiful part of this drama is how dead-sure and unwavering SB and WH are about each other. And how they always put the other party first, no matter the situation. I don’t think WH physically desires SB any less than SY, but respecting SB and protecting SB always comes first for him, no arguments needed. I mean this is the first time I’m seeing a guy block his room door with his bed to stop himself from hunting his gal down because he doesn’t trust himself to exercise self-control. If that’s not love, I don’t know what that is.

SB rejecting SY outright had to be done and she did it for his own good. She knows there is no one else but WH for her. And she chose to trust WH infinitely with the SN nonsense and not make an issue out of it. I just love the relationship between SB and WH – they are independent yet mutually dependable. They are playful but are amazingly mature when it comes to matters of the heart. They love each other selflessly, unconditionally. There’s something indescribably moving and soul-searing about their bond. It’s built on simple principles but yet so powerful. Just the action of WH holding back SB’s hair so that she can wash her face properly tugs at my heartstrings. It’s all about being there for each other, in both big and small ways.

And gosh, the seamless, unaffected skinship. The charged moments. The wonderful conversations they have with each other. The loving looks. THE CHEMISTRY between WH and KSR. The whole drama works because of the consistent writing, thoughtful character development and the sizzling OTP chemistry. WH and KSR have established such a solid rapport that their scenes together need no effort to shine and reel in viewers. Really Daebak.
